Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987)

So here’s a good one: Freddy walks into a mental institution… Ah crap. The rest was good. It had something to do with “Dream Powers” and a punk-rock chick. There was also the return of Nancy… OK, so this joke is turning out as good as "Dream Warriors": not all that great.

Nostalgia is a manipulative little bastard that grabs hold of your common sense and shakes it loose, so you actually think it’s amazing. Which means, this movie is pretty swell, because it’s so bad.

In this episode of the Elm Street Saga (HEY! If “Twilight” gets saga so does this!), we have Heather Langenkamp’s return, Patricia Arquette and Laurence Fishburne. If Morpheus, Freddy’s original nemesis and the priest-possessed chick from “Stigmata” can’t finish off Freddy, who can? There are some strange one-liners that stick out for all the wrong reasons and acting is typical “Elm Street” bad.

For better or worse, this film typified the Freddy we all remember. In the first film he was a sick son of a bitch. In the second one he was manipulative and just plain gross looking. "Dream Warriors" sprouted his corny jokes and gimmicky murders. Is it worth watching? Sure, we all kill plenty of brain cells in the theater. Why not kill them for the sake of nostalgia?

Now please excuse me as I go find out what my “Dream Power” is. I hope it’s to make Hollywood heads explode… That or the ability to make 1987’s Patricia Arquette find a time machine and become my new stalker.
