Space Jam (1996)
This is a terrible movie, and the fact that Leonard Maltin likes it makes me wonder what happened to his brain cells since he introduced the Golden Jubilee series of Looney Tunes videos in 1985. If you want a good Looney Tunes film, check out any of the compilation flicks like "The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Movie." To start the movie off, we're treated to a supposed-to-be-heartwarming scene in which a young Michael (you know, that classic Looney Tunes character Michael Jordan) is playing basketball outside and tells his dad about all the things he wants to do when he grows up. Yeah, like we need to know why a tall, bald, black guy is playing basketball thirty years later. It's definitely not the nine zillion he makes annually, but because it's his boyhood dream. Besides, one line of adult Michael's slushy-voiced dialogue reveals that he's probably not qualified for too many other professions. |

"Limits of Control" (2009)
The only control this movie proved to have limits on was Bitter Balcony's urge say "Jim Jarmusch is a crappy director." The trailer for "Limits of Control" did something movies haven't done in a while; it made us look forward to watching what we thought was going to be a good movie. But, seeing that it was directed by Jarmusch, our hope began its logical nosedive. "Limits of Control" proves once again that Jarmusch is too busy "trying" to be some artsy director to tell a story. Naturally, this earns him a big, fat FAIL because that is one of the director's main job requirements. Although there are always exceptions to the rule, once again Jarmusch has proved he is not The One. |

Fantastic Mr. Fox Lookout
Wes Anderson returns to the heist-fumbling that put him on the map in 1996's indie favorite "Bottle Rocket.” This time, instead of a group led by incompetent yet goodhearted robbers, the devious plot is executed by a group of farm animals led by the suave Mr. Fox in the stop-motion animated "Fantastic Mr. Fox.” Based on the Roald Dahl novel by the same name, the clever Mr. Fox (voiced by George Clooney) must formulate a plan to save his family's fur from some mean farmers. |
