The “Hunger Games” have finally arrived. Much like the characters in this movie everyone is anxious to enjoy how interesting this film is only to realize that the premise is handled as blandly as one could fear. Considering the whole premise is about a game where 24 youths hunt and kill each other this movie is exceedingly boring. I couldn’t help but wish for the film to be over before they even entered the games (as in one game). When the “games” started I realized the option of walking out became even more appealing.

Primrose Everdeen’s sister is drafted into some ridiculous game she volunteers to fight the good fight instead, thus saving her sister. Each of the twelve districts is expected to hand over one male and one female between the ages of 12 and 18 per year to compete to the death. She takes on this task to save her sister and enters a new world of ridiculous fashion and eventually some terribly shot action.

Gary Ross directs and adapts this film. His direction is merely OK. His adaption is terrible. I actually thought that there were 12 different worlds in this film. After reading some synopsis’s I realize now we are just looking at America. LOLZ, FAIL! The biggest problem with this adaption is what I hear the book’s issues were, there is no damn character development. Seriously, no one in this movie evolves past what they originally start at. Terrible.

The photography in this film ranges from mediocre (like the story) to absolutely horrid. It is another case where the director thought the best way to cover for the violent nature of the story is to hand the camera to an epileptic, wait for him/her to have a fit then yell out, “Action!” All this and while I was in the theater I noticed I was watching more nap-times than action between the kids.

The film’s fans all boast about how accurate they got the look of the high-fashion bullshit we witness for one of the longest first and second acts I’ve witnessed. Personally, I found the designs boring, over-the-top and way to emphasized for no apparent reason. I personally love Stanley Tucci, but between the style, wig and false teeth I really hated just about every moment he was on the screen.

The performances were good for what the actors had to work with, but let’s face it. Each and every character ends as two-dimensional as they start. The shitty part is that when you think about it, in regards to the story, there are clear ways to have these characters really blossom during the course of the story. Did Suzanne Collins not have an editor? Just based on the premise alone I can see the development of the main character(s) as a big issue.

In short, if you are a fan of the novel I can’t stop you from watching this terrible film. If you aren’t and are seriously considering it based on the hype. Please stay away!
