Idiocracy (I'm an idiot for watching it)

Idiocracy… man, like I didn’t see this one coming.

Here’s the films plot: Private Joe Bauers (Luke Wilson), the definition of "average American", is selected by the Pentagon to be the guinea pig for a top-secret hibernation program. Forgotten, he awakes 500 years in the future. He discovers a society so incredibly dumbed-down that he's easily the most intelligent person alive.

When the smartest man left in the world is Luke Wilson you know you have problems. Is that whole family under the delusion that they are funny? His brother Owen Wilson is annoying.

I can’t really provide much in the way of serious criticism for this movie. It’s written and directed by Mike Judge who gave us Bevis and Butthead. Should I stop writing on how bad this movie is now? No? OK, you asked for it.

This movie is about as stupid as the people of the future it makes fun of. The only thing I can give this movie credit on is the psychic nature of it’s premise. I am one who believes we are breeding the stupid into our genes at an alarming pace. I have frequently said that people should take an IQ test before they can have babies. It’s for the betterment and continued existence of mankind. I would even love for that IQ test to be way beyond my capacity, so that the debate of my having a child or not is never had again.

The one plus (aside from the joke about it's psychic abilities illustrated above) that this movie has is that they did spend some money on showing us what a decayed future of this nature would look like. There are huge garbage piles and buildings tied together, so they don’t collapse. You can really tell that this is a society of morons when they tie something together instead of creating giant zip ties and/or using duct tape. I mean, come on!

The performances are abysmal as expected and the story is as ridiculous from beginning to end as the plot suggests.

Is there anything worth watching in this film? Just the first 5 minutes as they explain how the dumb are breeding while intellectuals put it off for “the right time”. The graphical family tree forms in front of your eyes as the world population’s IQ drops to it’s already low into the negatives. After that there is nothing.

I’d love to see Terry Crews in something good for once. He looks like a funny guy, but the movies I’ve seen him in don’t do any justice to any talent that “might” be there. I’m even curious to see him in something serious.

What is the final verdict? Well, if you haven’t figured it out by now you must be from the future.

Not even half way in and it knocks me out!

it IS dumb. that's the point. it's commenting on our culture as it is right now.

also, I take it from your tone, that you didn't like bevis and butthead either? that was another good example of something that makes fun of our stupid culture. granted, a lot of really dumb people watched it for the wrong reason and that made it a huge hit. ironic, really.

now, your review is not exactly a review is it? I mean, this is just you with maybe a few beers in your gut typing out more or less a rant about a film you didn't like. you never address the film as a film, nor get into if the social commentary is on target or not, nor cite examples of anything that would back-up your rant or not (and worst of all, you never mention the history of the film! knowing that it was hacked up and begrudgingly released by Fox in a version that the director despised should have warranted half a page from any real critic!). pauline kael would be ashamed of you.

this is the internet: people with no training or qualification can now be film critics. (and, "man, I've seen more movies than you" does not qualify you for anything but "fanboy". sorry.)

First, I have the common courtesy of capitalizing someone's name.

Second, you should not know the movies history in order to enjoy it.

Third, when surrounded by morons I don't want to see a movie that points out exactly what I hate about them. That is just me though as some people are gluttons for punishment.

How does this qualify me as a "fanboy" exactly?

Also I don't have to "see more movies than you" to know that shit stinks.

PS. Thanks for reading!

Mike Judge .. it just wasn't his year.. he must not give a fuck after office space with this one. "I am just tired of directing .. I wanna go home". That was his exact quote on set ... I believe.

Carl's Jr. F**k you I'm eating!!

The quotes of that movie are funny, but yes the movie is horrible.

Idiocracy is a fairy tale for dumb people. This is the kind of entertainment that is so blunt that if you don't see the humor and sometimes sad truth, then this movie was made for you.
