Lookout: Matt Damon The Ass Kicker is ReBourne, sort of, with Green Zone

Green Zone Lookout

Matt Damon is kicking ass overseas again with "Green Zone". Reuniting with his "Bourne" director Paul Greengrass, Mr. Damon, as Roy Miller, is back to save the day, this time in the hunt for a dangerous man in the Middle East. From the looks of the trailer, it seems just like Damon's amnesiac hero alter-ego, Miller has plenty of ways to break bones on anybody who speaks English funny.

Of course, a vast cover-up conspiracy seems to be at work, with Greg Kinnear playing the suit and tie heavy Clark Poundstone. Miller is assisted by Lawrie Dayne(Oscar-nominee Amy Ryan) a possible journalist determined to uncover the truth, and in these movies, her rate of survival is 50/50. Great Britain thespians Brendan Gleeson and Jason Isaacs get a break from Hogwarts to round up the cast.

If there is a word that defines Matt Damon, it would be versatile. How this kid from Boston became our International enforcer is crazy to fathom after his early dramatic turns in "Good Will Hunting" and "The Talented Mr. Ripley" was more De Niro than Van Damme. However, after three exciting "Bourne" movies, Damon has proven how dynamic he can be.

Furthermore, to pair up again with Paul Greengrass in "Green Zone" is proof that there is something good about this project. Greengrass, a filmmaker with documentary background, made us forget Doug Liman ever directed the first film with his handheld camera frenzy in the last two sequels. At the very least "Green Zone" is a treatise for a possible Fourth Bourne Film, experimenting on new ways to invigorate the spy series. Until they decide to remember Jason Bourne, "Green Zone" will have to do.

For some reason I didn't find this trailer that exciting.

Man, Matt Damon's forehead looks old.

Also, Greg Kinnear... Pfft, whatever.

well, perhaps so. However, the team has two killer Bourne films, so that's always a good sign.

Not sure if being able to do a few action movies proves Damon's versatility. We had in the past action movies being successful with actors who look ugly, can't speak english, can't produce facial expressions, and can't laugh naturally. They don't even need big arms to do action movies these days.

having said that, I do think the movie can be interesting as long as they stop using that shaky cam technic.

While it is true than acting talent is not a requirement for an action movie star, Matt Damon proved with the Bourne series that you can add good acting as well as physical stamina. His body of work has solid dramatic turns as well as comedic ones(The Informant, Stuck On You). The fact that he can be a convincing action star does show versatility.

As far as Green Zone goes, Paul Greengrass is a good director and usually that's what call my attention in a movie, so we will see.
