MacGruber is an Explosion of Crap!!!

A new step has been added to the Saturday Night Live dung ladder with the unfunny “MacGruber.” Will Forte plays the title character, an idiotic explosives expect whose fashion sense and social awareness are stuck in the 1980’s. In “MacGruber,” Forte’s fool with a high ego is tolerable for the minute or less the SNL segment lasts, which always ends with the bomb detonating. Here, we get ninety minutes of Forte’s mediocre physical comedy, and we are just hoping a real bomb would blow him to smithereens. For the exception of a couple of chuckles here and there, and the casting of Val Kilmer and Powers Boothe in a “where have you been” curiosity, “MacGruber” joins Forte with a group of fellow SNL alums like Jim Breuer and Tim Meadows that were not ready for primetime, indeed.

“MacGruber,” a direct parody of the Reagan Era action show “Macgyver,” begins with MacGruber’s arch-enemy Dieter Von Cunth (get it, Cunth, hahahhahahahahahaha.no) played by Kilmer (who appears to have eaten himself) stealing a warhead. Colonel Faith (Powers Boothe, which you were in a better movie) and Lt. Piper (Ryan Phillipe) attempt to convince MacGruber to resurface from his spiritual hideaway in Ecuador to stop Von Cunth. MacGruber, who has a vendetta on Von Cunth for killing his wife on their wedding day, abandons his turin in favor of a flannel shirt, a beige vest, and a mullet (nothing says "make fun of my whiteness" more than that haircut, I suppose). What we get along the way is Forte sticking a celery stick up his asshole, throw f-bombs in almost every line, and showing his bare ass; Or, in other words, things that Jim Carrey and Will Ferrell did better ten years ago.

There is no light at the end of “MacGruber’s” tunnel, which is a bit of a shame for Kristen Wiig, who’s much funnier than Forte but has the misfortune of being the dimwitted damsel in distress. I'm curious to see what Wiig could do if she was to have her own crack at lead or in something written by Tina Fey at least. Besides that, this movie is not only rubbish, but it doesn’t have the common sense to have a Richard Dean Anderson cameo. Please, Lorne Michaels, no more movies on SNL characters, they just collect dust.
