Some Docs We Love At The Bitter!!!

Bitter, Bitter Balcony, Movie Review,

To conclude our Documentary week, we recommend a few titles we think you will like.

1. The Fog of War: The master of documentary films, Errol Morris, delivers a cautionary tale through the eyes of former US Secretary of Defense William McNamara. One of the best films of the 2000's, McNamara is equal parts tragic figure, shady villian, and the voice of reason in a warning on America's war engagements.

2. The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters: This very funny underdog story is A true life "Rudy" for Video Arcade geeks. Steve Wiebe, as the challenger for the top scoring crown in Donkey Kong, must face the schemes of champion Billy Mitchell, perhaps the most evil nerd ever captured on film. This documentary is not only funny, but surprisingly inspiring.

3. Sick: The Life & Death of Bob Flanagan, Supermasochist: A disturbing look at the life a sadomasochist Bob Flanagan, who found solace in sexual torture as he dealt with the cystic fibrosis disease that would ultimately claim his life. While "Sick" can gross many out, underneath the unnerving documentary is a story about love and clinging to the things that ease the pain of being mortal.

4. Z Channel: A Magnificent Obsession: This one plays on me tight in my chest. Z Channel is about Jerry Harvey, a film afincionado who took his passion for cinema to cable television in the early 1980's. For anybody that truly loves the seventh art, you will find a lost kin in the late Jerry Harvey.

5. Our Brand Is Crisis: A facinating insider's look at the American spin doctoring of latin american presidential campaign. Our Brand is Crisis shows that when it comes to the business of politics, America is #1.

Please feel free to add any recommendation of one of your favorite documentaries. A film genre that after many years has found notoriety in the mainstream box office, documentaries prove that the best stories can only be found in reality.
