Splice (2009) (to be released 2010)
“Splice” popped up on the Bitter Balcony grid a few months ago and its first teaser caught our interest. Apparently, after screening at the Sundance Film Festival, a bidding war began between Apparition, The Weinstein Company, Newmarket Films, First Look Studios and Samuel Goldwyn Films. Ultimately, "Splice" was purchased by Dark Castle Entertainment. Warner Bros. will distribute the film’s wide release on June 4. With quite the mishmash of entertainment heavyweights clamoring over this genetic mutation, we hope the movie is actually good.
Two young scientists (Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley) achieve fame by splicing human DNA with the DNA of different animals to create a new creature. In the process they ignore society's ethical and legal boundaries. The scientists name their creature "Dren," which is initially a deformed infant. However, it rapidly develops into a deadly, winged human-chimera.
Judging by the trailer, cast and the brief summary, it sounds like it has the potential to be a cool movie with an interesting premise. One can hope.

there is a difference between being sceptical and cynical.
spit on it is cynical; being sceptical, well, is holding a stick and poke at it.
Well put.
it looks like a cross of 'alien' and 'species', or a bit 'the fly'.
the design at the end where the woman's head and spike tail didn't do much to me. only home the director of 'the cube' can whip something interesting out.
overall, skeptic.
Damn it, I refuse to be cynical about everything! Ah, who am I kidding. I'm skeptical, too. :)
